For AAMI Park Stadium 48 lighting sequences addressing a number of different cultural themes and client requirements were produced. These included: Indigenous stories and language (with the guidance and permission of Wurundjeri elder Aunty Joy Murphy Wandin). Also addressed were ideas of the natural environment, sporting movement and a mode for festivals and sequences that represented the separate teams and football codes. Custom software was produced that used artificial intelligence to simulated swarm behaviour that served as a metaphor for team dynamics. Athlete’s movements and other live action was combined with animation and video to create a dynamic narrative in light that speaks of the site’s current and historic uses and meanings.
