Alexander Knox is a Melbourne-based sculptor large-scale kinetic light installations, soundscapes and sculpture. For the past 18 years Alexander Knox Studios have been creating major art works in the public realm as well as producing exhibitions in public and private galleries and museums. Knox public practice is highly diverse in form and conceptual approach, covering large free standing sculpture, architecturally integrated sculpture, major kinetic light works, interactive video projection, kinetic sculpture, play sculpture and sound works. on major projects including hospitals, stadium, museums, highways and other public and private projects both in Australia and overseas.

Knox’s interest lies in engaging with multilayered ideas of community and place through an exploration of a sites (often competing) histories, uses and social meanings. His works often look at ecology and natural science, social history, indigenous lore, pre and alternative histories and deep time. Knox looks for stories of place that include myth, diverse belief systems and speculative narrative exploring perception, identity and subjectivity within the public realm
