The work Ned and Dan was developed for a commission for the Sidney Nolan Building, Docklands. Karl Fender designed the builiding leaving the pelmet slot for the artwork. Alexander Knox Studios developed a kinetic work in response the Nolan's painting and the pelmet architeture of Karl Fender. The work extends the idea of the the production of myth in Australia culture that was key to Nolan's Kelly series.
The kinetic artwork an environmental myth grinder, comprises of two mirrored stainless steel kinetic sculptures that move mechanically reflecting light and the sky. The textural gold fascade was developed in conjunction with Karl Fender as an extension of artwork to encorporate a facade treatment, using sunlight and shadow to speak of abstraction in relation to the Australian mythic landscape.
